Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are proud to announce goaltender Drew MacIntyre has been nominated for the 2007-08 American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the Manitoba community and charitable organizations during the 2007-08 season.

MacIntyre has been one of the most community-conscious players on the team since joining prior to the 2006-07 season. However, in his second season with the squad, he and his wife Karen purchased a home near downtown Winnipeg and took a very active role in becoming involved outside of what the team plans and organizes during a year. He made it immediately known to the hockey administration that he wanted to be involved in the community whenever the opportunity presented itself and he even went to the lengths of purchasing tickets for each home for patients in the Children's Hospital and their families so they could attend Moose games when possible. MacIntyre is an incredibly honest and available individual, as evidenced by his popularity away from the rink at public functions and the number of requests the organization receives for his time in particular.

Some of the many activities MacIntyre undertook, either on his own or through team functions, include visiting Springs Christian Academy as part of the "Respond to Reading" program in February as well as a number of visits to the Children's Hospital to visit young patients. MacIntyre also volunteered his time to numerous minor hockey initiatives such as helping out at practices and visiting minor hockey league teams to pass on words of wisdom. He is also one of the most sought-after members of the team by the media largely due to his openness as he was a regular guest on FM radio morning shows and even went so far as to shave his head live on air in support of Power 97's Cut for Cancer in support of Cancer Care Manitoba.

MacIntyre has appeared in a career-high 43 games so far this season for the Moose. He is currently ranked second in the entire AHL with a 2.10 goals against average and third with a .928 save percentage. The Charlottetown, PEI native has a career-high 25 wins so far this year and was even credited with only the second overtime winning goal by a goalie in AHL history. He represented the Moose at the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok in Binghamton, NY where he stopped 15 of 16 shots he faced. He even made his first-ever appearance in an NHL game this season with the Vancouver Canucks Dec. 13/07 at San Jose.

In recognition of his efforts, MacIntyre will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming home game.

MacIntyre is now one of 29 finalists for the 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award, which was won five seasons ago by Manitoba Moose forward Jimmy Roy, is named after the former Hershey Bears forward who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia, will be announced later this month.
