Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Adam McQuaid has been named the team's representative for the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award, given to one player from each AHL club for his outstanding contributions to his local community and charitable organizations during the 2007-08 season.

McQuaid, 21, has entered the world of professional hockey with the same enthusiasm that earned him several team awards while with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League over his four-year junior career. McQuaid is often among the first players in the dressing room to offer his time to visit community events, most notably a trip to a Special Olympics event at the Rhode Island Convention Center. That, along with local restaurant and store visits, have made the first-year blue-liner a fan-favorite in Providence this season.

Representatives from American Specialty and the AHL will choose among McQuaid and the other 28 finalists for the winner of this year's Yanick Dupre Memorial Award. The AHL's annual Man of the Year award is named after the late Yanick Dupre, who died in 1997 at the age of 24, following a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre, an AHL All-Star in 1995, played four seasons with the Hershey Bears, registering 169 points in 207 games. He also skated in 35 National Hockey League games with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The winner of the 2007-08 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced in the coming weeks.

Providence returns home to begin a four-game homestand Friday for Jordan Sigalet Poster Night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center as the P-Bruins take on the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. The posters are courtesy of EMD Serono and M.S. Lifelines. Providence Bruins Promotional Nights are presented by Dunkin' Donuts and your New England Dodge Dealers. On Saturday, the P-Bruins host the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. for Faith Night and iParty Birthday Night. Providence concludes the home weekend Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Worcester Sharks.
