Miller Lifts Monarchs to 3-2 Win in OT
February 21, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Monarchs fell behind by two goals for the second straight night, but came out with a 3-2 overtime win against the IceCaps on Saturday night thanks to a game-winning goal from Colin Miller.
"We needed [two points] after dropping one last night," Miller said. "I think it was a good push after going down 1-0. We just stayed calm and fought back hard to get the win."
Miller also scored the game-tying goal in the third period, marking the second time this season he had multiple goals in a game (also Nov. 1 vs. STJ).
It marked the first time this season the Monarchs won at home when trailing after two periods (1-4-0-0).
Eric O'Dell started the scoring for St. John's with a goal 3:37 into the game.
St. John's would make it a 2-0 lead when Scott Kosmachuk was left alone in front of the net to put a back hander in.
David Van der Gulik put the Monarchs on the board at 11:56 in the second period. It was his 11th goal of the season.
Manchester tied the score on the man advantage at 10:10 in the third when Miller scored his team-high eighth power-play goal of the season.
The teams went to overtime for the second time in as many nights, but Miller ended the game with a slap shot at 6:30 in the extra frame.
The Monarchs close out their three-game weekend with a 3 p.m. game against the Sharks tomorrow.
Notes:
Andrew Bodnarchuk is on a season-high four-game point streak, tallying two goals and four assists in that time. Brian O'Neill (assist) extended his point streak to a season-best eight games (5 goals, 6 assists) beginning on Feb. 4. Jeff Schultz (assist) registered his first AHL point since Dec. 13 at WOR. Patrik Bartosak left the game late in the third period due to injury.
