Worcester Red Sox News Release

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Johan Mieses clubbed two home runs, and the Worcester bullpen allowed only one run in six innings of work as the WooSox (52-46) took game three of their six-game series with the Buffalo Bisons (56-39) by an 8-5 final on Thursday night at Sahlen Field. The win gave Worcester its second four-game winning streak since Father's Day and sixth overall this season.

A night after scoring thrice in the first inning on three solo home runs, the WooSox scored four times in the first inning against Buffalo starter Zach Logue (6-3). Worcester scored its first run on an RBI double from Joey Meneses. The other three runs came on Mieses's first homer of the night, a titanic blast that cleared everything in left field to make the score 4-0.

Buffalo responded with four runs in the bottom of the second, two of those coming on a Cullen Large two-run home run (8). Daniel Gossett, in his second game back from a six-week injury absence, permitted four runs total (two earned) in three innings of work.

Worcester regained the lead in the top of the third inning thanks to a Jeter Downs RBI double.

Mieses's second home run of the night was a line drive over the left-field fence in the fifth inning, which made the score 6-4. The multi-home run effort came a night after both Yairo Munoz and Joey Meneses slugged two homers.

John Schreiber (2-3) relieved Gossett in the fourth and proceeded to toss three scoreless innings to earn his second victory of the season. Durbin Feltman, Brandon Brennan, and Kaleb Ort followed with one inning apiece, as the pen combined to allow only one run on six hits over the final six innings.

Worcester has now won the first three games in the series and six straight overall against the Bisons.

The WooSox continue the six-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, the team's first and only road trip to Sahlen Field. Radio coverage starts live at 6:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Worcester right-hander Kutter Crawford (1-3, 6.94) is scheduled to face Buffalo righty Thomas Hatch (1-4, 3.33).
