Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves dropped game one of the four game set against Binghamton Mets 10-5 on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The Mets opened the scoring in the third inning as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Eudy Pina singled to start the inning and moved to second on a walk. Gavin Cecchini then grounded into a fielder's choice, which left runners at the corners for L.J. Mazzilli. Mazzilli smoked a triple to deep center field which scored Pina from third and Cecchini all the way from first.

Erie answered the call in the bottom half the inning as they tied the ballgame up. Alberto Gonzalez walked to start the inning and scored when Connor Harrell sent a homer over the wall in left.

Binghamton began to pull away in the fifth inning. Albert Cordero singled to lead off the inning and was driven in by a Michael Conforto blast to right. Brock Peterson then singled and was moved to second a Brandon Nimmo walk. Josh Rodriguez then smoked a two out single back up the middle, which scored Peterson and extended the lead to 6-3.

The Mets put the game out of reach in the seventh. Back-to back singles from Mazzilli and Conforto and a Peterson walk loaded the bases with nobody out against reliever Confessor Lara. Rodriguez then sent a bouncer to third, and on an error, Mazzilli scored and the bases were still loaded for Dustin Lawley. Lawley sent a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Conforto making it 7-2. Pina then doubled home both Peterson and Rodriguez as Binghamton once again extended the lead to 9-2.

Erie answered for one in the bottom half of the seventh as they were able to load the bases courtesy of singles from Gonzalez, Harrell and Austin Green. Harold Castro grounded into a double play, which allowed Gonzalez to score.

In the eighth, Wade Gaynor doubled with two outs and scored on a James Robbins double making it 9-4. Gonzalez then singled, scoring Robbins making it 9-5.

The Mets added one more in the ninth and went on to win by five.

Derek Hankins took the loss on the mound for Erie (2-6) as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
