New Britain got a run off Ben Lively in the bottom of the third inning as Pat Valaika hit a RBI single with two outs to score Jayson Langfels and cut the lead to 2-1 for Reading. Brock Stassi recorded his 52nd RBI of the season with a single in the top of the fifth inning off Evans to give the Fightins a 3-1 lead.

Ben Lively was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning by home plate umpire Paul Clemons. He left the game with two runners on and Ryan O'Sullivan entered the game. He struck out Jeremy Barfield and got Juan Ciriaco to ground into an inning-ending double-play.

Lively (6-6) allowed just one run off six hits in five innings with two walks and two strikeouts in earning his sixth win of the season. Ryan O'Sullivan tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Lively. Reinier Roibal pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
