BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today the selection of four players to the Western Division team for the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game Wednesday, July 15 in Portland, Me. C Rossmel Perez, OF Mike Yastrzemski, RHP Terry Doyle and RHP Mychal Givens were selected for the game. For more information on the All-Star Game, fans can visit www.seadogs.com.
In his first season in the Orioles organization, Perez has been a reliable backstop for the Baysox this year. Through 41 games, the Venezuela native is batting .292 with five doubles, 17 RBI and just 14 strikeouts in 154 at-bats. Perez spent the first nine years of his professional career in the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds organizations, advancing as high as Triple-A with Louisville in 2014 and playing in three games with Norfolk this season.
A familiar name in New England, Yastrzemski has been roaming the Baysox outfield since the 2014 All-Star Break. Through 71 games this season, the lefty is batting .247 with a team-leading 35 runs scored and 30 RBI. Yastrzemski is tied for second in the league with 20 doubles this season and he leads the Baysox with three triples.
A native of Concord, Mass., and a former Boston College Eagle, Doyle has been one of the Baysox most impressive starting pitchers this season. He was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week June 8 after throwing a complete game shutout June 7 at Portland. This season, Doyle is 7-1 with a 2.37 ERA and one save in 13 games (8 starts). Doyle's ERA leads the team and is the fifth-lowest in the Eastern League.
A converted shortstop, Givens has become one of the most feared relievers in the Eastern League this season. The sidearmer is fifth in the Eastern League with 13 saves and has the second-best strikeouts/9IP ratio in the league among relievers (12.25 - 59/43.1). Overall this season, Givens is 4-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 25 games and he has converted 13 saves in 15 chances. He was added to the Orioles 40-man roster earlier in June and made his Major League debut Wednesday, June 24, throwing a scoreless inning against the Boston Red Sox.
