Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading Fightin Phils starting pitcher Zach Eflin has been named to the United States roster for the upcoming Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada on July 10 through July 19, USA Baseball announced earlier this week. Eflin is part of a Team USA roster that is comprised of non-40-man roster players to be managed by former Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates skipper Jim Tracy.

Through 14 starts this season, Eflin is 5-4 with a 2.88 ERA over 84.1 innings of work. He has struck out 42 batters to just 16 walks in his debut Double-A season. The 21-year old made his way to the Philadelphia Phillies organization after being traded as part of the Jimmy Rollins deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 33rd overall pick of the 2012 draft.

Eflin began the 2015 season as part of the highly-touted Fightins pitching staff that featured five of the organization's top 10 prospects according to MLB.com. A native of Orlando, Florida, he began the season going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA to earn Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for April 9th-April 19th.

Along with Eflin, the Phillies will be represented by Lehigh Valley outfielder Brian Bogusevic and GCL Phillies manager Roly deArmas, who will serve on Tracy's coaching staff.

Team USA is looking for its first gold medal in Pan American Games since 1967. They came close in 2011 after dropping the gold medal game to Canada.
