Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Papillion, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chaser (28-27) won their first ever game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-25) 12-3 from Werner Park Thursday night.
For the third time in as many games, the Storm Chasers put up a run in the first inning. SS Iván Castillo hit a line drive into center to start the game. 1B Nick Pratto would hit into a force out but would reach when the Iron Pigs failed to turn the double play. LF Brewer Hicklen hit a double to put Pratto at third before a single from DH Vinnie Pasquantino scored Pratto and put runners at the corners.
A single from 2B Clay Dungan would score Hicklen and move Pasquantino on second with two outs. Omaha kept the rally moving a single from RF Nate Eaton, and a Lehigh Valley throwing error would plate Pasquantino and give the Storm Chasers a 3-0 lead after the first.
CF Dairon Blanco would walk to start the second inning and Pratto would hit a single with one out to put runners at first and second. The pair would end up stranded to keep the score at 3-0.
The Storm Chasers surrendered a run in the top of the fourth, but Omaha responded with runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Pasquantino hit a single and moved to second on a groundout from C Cam Gallagher. Dungan hit an RBI double before Eaton decided it was time to hit a 415-foot homer to left field that forced a Lehigh Valley pitching change. Eaton now has four home runs in his first 12 games for Omaha.
Omaha kept the storm rolling with a walk from 3B Angelo Castellano and a single from Blanco that put runners on the corners with two outs. Castillo hit a single that would score both Castellano and Blanco and blow the game open at 8-1.
A pair of walks and a single juiced the bases with two outs for Omaha in the sixth but a flyout to the right fielder ended Omaha's scoring opportunity.
RHP Daniel Mengden (Win, 5-3) threw six no-hit innings before surrendering a pair of hits in the seventh in his third straight quality start.
In the bottom of the seventh, Omaha used four consecutive walks to score another run before Pasquantino hit an RBI single to force an IronPigs pitching change with no outs. After the new pitcher recorded two outs, Eaton hit a two RBI single to make the score 12-3 through seven innings.
Omaha kept Lehigh Valley off the scoreboard in the final two innings to take game three 12-3.
The Storm Chasers will be rebranded Friday, playing as the Omaha Hogs on "What if?" night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:45 with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show. Tomorrow is also a Fireworks Friday presented by Hy-Vee.
