Durham Bulls News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Bulls third baseman Xavier Edwards homered and combined with first baseman Luke Raley in totaling six hits and driving in seven runs in Durham's 10-7 victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday evening at AutoZone Park.
Following single tallies by Memphis in the first and second frames, the Bulls rolled the Redbirds with nine runs between the fourth and fifth frames. Raley's ripped a game-tying two-run single before CF Ryan Boldt pushed Durham ahead with a two-run knock of his own. Raley one inning later would draw a bases-loaded walk before Edwards' three-run blast punctuated Durham's five-run fifth to extend the advantage to 9-2. Raley would drive in his fourth run with a run-scoring single in the eighth to cap the Bulls' scoring.
Edwards (3-5, R, HR, 3 RBI) and Raley (3-4, R, 2B, 4 RBI, BB) were joined by 2B Jonathan Aranda (3-5, 3 R, 2B) in recording three hits each, with C Ford Proctor (2-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI) adding a multi-hit effort. Edwards' longball was his second homer in a span of six contests with the Bulls. Prior to that span, Edwards had gone deep just once in his 253 career contests.
Durham southpaw Zack Erwin (1.1 IP, H, K) earned the win, while Redbirds' starter Aaron Brooks (3.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat. Bulls righty Dusten Knight (2.0 IP, H, BB) tossed the final two shutout frames to notch his team-leading sixth save.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Friday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 8:05pm ET. LHP Josh Fleming is expected to get the start for Durham, while St. Louis Cardinals RHP Jack Flaherty is slated to get the nod for Memphis as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment.
The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 14 to start a six-game home series versus the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch of that series' opener is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
