Rochester Red Wings (35-21) vs. St. Paul Saints (26-29)

Thursday - 8:07 p.m. ET - CHS Field - St. Paul, MN

Radio: Fox Sports 1280/iHeartRadio | TV: MiLB.tv

RHP Logan Verrett (3-4, 5.87) vs. RHP Joe Ryan (5-2, 2.28)

NOT NICE: The Rochester Red Wings dropped their second straight game to St. Paul after an eight-run first inning derailed the Wings and sent them away with a 12-2 loss...the Wings used seven pitchers in the loss, accumulating 11 strikeouts en route to surrendering 10 earned runs...right fielder Donovan Casey enjoyed the Wings only multi-hit performance which included a third-inning homer and was joined by designated hitter Joey Meneses who launched a homer of his own, making it two homers in two games for the former International League-MVP...shortstop Ildemaro Vargas accounted for the only other hit for Rochester in yesterday's contest...the Wings will send RHP Logan Verrett to the mound today who will oppose rehabbing Major League righty Joe Ryan in hopes of securing Rochester's first win in the state of Minnesota since 1955.

OK, TWO IS ENOUGH: Rochester will look to avoid dropping three games in a row, a feat the team has only done once this season (04/10-04/14 at TOL & vs. BUF)...the Wings have not lost three-straight to a single opponent this season, going 3-1 after back-to-back losses...the Red Wings still hold first place in the International League-East thanks to a Buffalo team who lost both games of a double-header versus Worcester yesterday, moving them -3.5 games back of first place...Lehigh Valley moves into second place, trailing Rochester by three games...the Red Wings have held first place for 33 days.

THE NEW JOEY BATS: Last night, DH Joey Meneses went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk...his third-inning homer was the righty's 14th blast of the year, the third-most in the International League...after homering in the series opener on Tuesday, Wednesday's blast marks the second time this season he has homered in back-to-back games (5/26 & 5/27 @ SYR)...today, Meneses will have the chance to homer in three-straight games for the first time since his 2018 MVP season (7/30-8/1 with LHV).

WE MISS YOU JAKE: Former Rochester Red Wing centerfielder Jake Cave went 3-for-5 with a home run, triple, and four RBI last night, just a double shy of the cycle...the lefty spent parts of two years with the Red Wings ('18, '19) when Rochester was the Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate...during this time, Cave slugged 13 homers and posted a .308 batting average (127-for-412) while driving in 67 runs in 107 games played.

CAN'T CONTAIN A FREE MAN: Outfielder Cole Freeman drew a first-inning walk last night and extended his season-long on-base streak to eight games...during his eight-game on-base streak, Freeman has had a pair of three-game hit streaks (5/24-5/26, 5/29-6/4).

DONOVAN'S DINGERS: Last night, right fielder Donovan Casey hit a third-inning solo-shot which marked his sixth of the year...the righty now ranks fourth on the club in long balls...after having just one home run in the month of May, Casey has homered twice in just six games in June.

CAN'T ROCK REED: RHP Reed Garrett had a scoreless 8th inning in last night's loss versus the Saints...Garrett has not given up a run in his last four appearances, striking out four batters during that span...the reliever has not given up a run in 12 of his last 14 outings and now posts a 2.84 ERA on the season.

BET ON VERRETT: RHP Logan Verrett will get the start for the Wings today following an outing versus Buffalo where he gave up eight earned runs in 4.2 innings...Verrett will attempt to get back to his May form where he had just a 3.78 ERA (26.2 IP/ 11 ER)...his 35 strikeouts are the third-most on the team, averaging 8.3 K/9.

NO NEW FRIENDS: The Rochester Red Wings face off against the Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate, a title the Red Wings claimed for 17 seasons (18 years including '20)...the Saint's roster features five former Red Wings, including two coaches, who combine for 333 games played in a Wings uniform...Saints Manager and 2020 Red Wings Manager (COVID) Toby Gardenhire leads the group with 153 games played in a Red Wings uniform, having done so during the 2010 and 2011 seasons...Virgil Vasquez, Gardenhire's pitching coach, appeared in 16 games for the Red Wings during 2013-14...Jake Cave (107 games), John Andreoli (43 games), Caleb Hamilton (11 games), and recently-acquired Aaron Sanchez (3 games) round out the group who will be looking to inflict damage upon their former home...Co-Pitching Coach Cibney Bello also spent time with Rochester in a similar role in 2019.
