TOLEDO, OH - The Iowa Cubs (25-31) extended their losing streak to four as the Toledo Mud Hens (28-27) won both halves of the doubleheader on Thursday at Fifth Third Field.

Game one was a pitchers' duel from the very beginning, with Cam Sanders on the mound for Iowa, facing off with Major League rehabber Eduardo Rodriguez for Toledo.

Dixon Machado led off the game with a single on the first pitch he saw, but that would turn out to be one of only two hits Iowa would collect in the ballgame. Rodriguez locked down Iowa's lineup for four innings, racking up nine strikeouts and allowing only two baserunners.

On the other side, Sanders did his part, as well. He allowed only three hits in his five innings of work while striking out four. The difference came in the bottom of the fourth, when Victor Reyes launched a solo home run for one of those three hits, scoring what would be the only run of the game. After no-hit performances from both bullpens, Toledo took game one by a final score of 1-0.

Game two got off on a better foot for Iowa. They loaded the bases in the second inning ahead of Erick Castillo, who knocked a two-RBI single for the first two runs of the game. Meanwhile, their game two starter, Mark Leiter Jr., held Toledo's lineup in check. He worked around two fielding errors in the first and sent the Mud Hens down one-two-three in the second inning.

Toledo didn't stay quiet for long, however. With two out in the third, the Mud Hens strung together four straight hits, including two doubles, to take a 3-2 lead.

Leiter Jr. rebounded for a one-two-three fourth before Erich Uelmen took over in the fifth, putting in two scoreless innings of work to keep the game within one. The I-Cubs threatened in the top of the seventh with a one-out double from Castillo, but they weren't able to push the run across, and the Mud Hens secured the sweep by a final score of 3-2 in game two.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Iowa's starters were credited with the loss in both games, meaning the starting pitcher has taken the loss in all four of the games in the current losing streak.

Dixon Machado extended his hitting streak to nine games, which ties the team high this season, while John Hicks, Levi Jordan and Nelson Velazquez all broke their own season-high hitting streaks after each of them failed to collect a hit in game one.

Eduardo Rodriguez's nine strikeouts in game one tied a season high by any single opposing pitcher this season.

Iowa's bullpen combined for just two baserunners across both halves of the doubleheader, with Sean Newcomb and Erich Uelmen combining for 3.0 hitless, scoreless innings.

Iowa will continue the series with Toledo tomorrow evening, when they will play the fourth of six games. First pitch between the I-Cubs and the Mud Hens is set for 6:05 CT. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
