Charlotte Knights News Release
(LOUISVILLE, KY) - LHP John Parke tossed a season-high seven innings to help lead the Charlotte Knights to a 4-2 win over the Louisville Bats in game three of the six-game series from Louisville Slugger Field on Thursday night. The win was Charlotte's second in as many days against the Bats.
Parke (2-5, 6.87) allowed just two runs over seven masterful innings to earn his second win of the season. Parke, a product of the University of South Carolina, allowed just one walk and nine hits in his longest outing of the season. In fact, it tied the team's longest outing by a starter this season. LHP Wes Benjamin tossed seven innings on April 21 at Nashville.
The Bats scored twice in the second inning against Parke to take an early 2-0 lead. Parke allowed RBI singles to Trey Amburgey and Robbie Tenerowicz in the second inning - Louisville's only runs of the night. After that, Parke settled in nicely. He retired the final seven batters he faced in the game en route to the game three victory.
For the Knights, the team scored the first of four runs in Thursday's game thanks to an RBI groundout from Romy González in the top of the fourth inning. Two innings later, first baseman Seby Zavala tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI double.
In the eighth inning -- with the game tied at 2-2 -- Blake Rutherford played the hero. The Charlotte outfielder ripped the first pitch of the at-bat for a two-run double to give the Knights a 4-2 lead. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
With the Knights ahead by a score of 4-2, the team's bullpen held the Bats scoreless over the final two innings. LHP Zach Muckenhirn recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to notch his second save of the year.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Louisville Bats from Louisville Slugger Field on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
