Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians trailed from start to finish in an 11-3 loss to the Columbus Clippers Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field. Jared Oliva and Ji-hwan Bae smacked back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning, but the long balls weren't enough as Indy fell back to .500.
Following a 46-minute rain delay that bumped the start time to 2:21 PM ET, Will Benson set the stage for a long afternoon by lining the first pitch of the game into the right-field corner for a double. He later scored on a Bobby Bradley sacrifice fly.
Rain showers caused a 34-minute delay in the middle of the second inning, and the 1-0 score held until Columbus (34-22) poured on five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the eighth to mount an 11-0 advantage. The visitors sent nine batters to the plate during their five-run fifth, an inning highlighted by two-RBI hits from Nolan Jones and former Indian Mitchell Tolman.
Oliva and Bae helped Indianapolis (27-27) carve into its deficit with their fourth and sixth home runs of the season, but it was too little, too late. Oliva's two-run shot to left-center sailed 470 feet.
Tanner Tully (W, 5-0) scattered five hits over 5.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Miguel Yajure (L, 0-1) yielded one earned run on two hits and one walk in 2.0 innings but exited early due to the second rain delay.
The Indians and Clippers will continue their series at 7:05 PM ET on Thursday. Indy will send RHP Bryse Wilson (2-0, 4.15) to the bump while Columbus has not yet named its starter.
