Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Independence, MO (February 6, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks announced Friday afternoon that they have signed defenseman Matt Stephenson to a standard player contract.

"Stephenson is a proven player, obviously a big part in the success of the team last season," said Richard Matvichuk, Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations. "We are excited to see him in the lineup."

Stephenson played in a total of 65 regular season games with the Missouri Mavericks during their 2013-14 campaign, tallying 6 goals, 24 assists, and 117 penalty minutes. During his 6 post-season game appearances, the 6'2" 204lb defenseman notched an additional 6 assists for the Mavs.

The Missouri Mavericks are happy to welcome back the Midland, ONT native. The fan-favorite blue-liner has not donned a club hockey sweater since his last game at Independence Events Center, and the Orange Army will surely be ready to see him lace up his skates again for the Mavs.

Stephenson will once again wear the number 24 for the Missouri Mavericks.

The Missouri Mavericks also waived defenseman Zack Josepher ahead of their home game Friday night at Independence Events Center against the Rapid City Rush.
