DULUTH, Ga. - Continuing their three-game set this week, the Gladiators (15-24-2-1) will once again host the Orlando Solar Bears (22-15-3-0) tonight at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The two teams last played one another on Tuesday, a 3-1 loss for the Gladiators. Former Solar Bear Kent Patterson kept the team in the game by making 42 saves on a season-high 45 shots allowed.
Glads Notes:
Follow the Leader: Casey Pierro-Zabotel had a dominant January, racking up 10 goals and 11 assists. During the month he had four times as many multi-point games (8) as he did zero point games (2). His 10 goals were second-most in the month of January, while his 21 points were third-most. Both of his totals were the most in the stacked Eastern Conference. Pierro-Zabotel currently leads the Eastern Conference in scoring with 49 points in 39 games played - the only Eastern Conference scorer in the top 10 scorers.
On the Plus Side: Gladiators defensemen Joe Stejskal and Eric Springer led the ECHL in plus-minus in January with a +13 rating for both men. Stejskal was an even or better in 11 of his 13 games played in January, while Springer was even or better in each of his 10 games played in the month.
Working for the Weekend: Of the last nine Friday or Saturday games the Gladiators have played, the team has won seven of them. Over those eight Friday/Saturdays, Gwinnett has outscored their opponents 36 to 24.
Home Sweet Home: The Gladiators have played the third most amount of home games in the league up through tonight - 24, tying them with Evansville, Indy, and Alaska. Only Tulsa (27) and South Carolina (25) have played more home games so far. After this weekend, the Gladiators will only have 10 home games remaining, as opposed to 17 road games.
Gladiators Ahoy: Two players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- James Melindy and Dyson Stevenson - and seven more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), Louis Domingue (POR), Jordon Southorn (POR) Greg Carey (POR), Bretton Stamler (HFD), and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (NOR) - have spent time in the AHL this year.
Milestones: Sean Berkstresser is three points away from his 200th professional point ... Geoff Paukovich is one goal away from his 50th as a pro, and scored his 100th ECHL point on Saturday.
Streaks: Casey Pierro-Zabotel had his second six-game point streak of the season snapped on Tuesday. He also has 10 goals and 22 assists in his last 22 games, and points in 11 of his last 14 (10g, 11a) ... Garry Nunn has two goals and nine assists in his last 11 games ... Brenden Walker has four goals and six assists in his last nine games
