WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11 - 7:30pm vs. READING
WET WEDNESDAY / HALFWAY TO HALLOWEEN NIGHT
Tonight's Matchup: After a thrilling 5-4 shootout win on Wednesday against Kalamazoo, the Cyclones are on the road tonight as they make their first and only trip of the season to Elmira, New York. The Jackals have taken two of the three get-togethers thus far in 2014-15, including a come-from-behind win last week at U.S. Bank Arena.
Scouting the Jackals: Jamie Russell's club rallied to win in overtime on Wednesday night against Florida and come into the weekend trailing the Everblades by 10 points in the East Division race. Rookie Steven Shamanski continues to pace the club on offense with 28 points (11g, 17a) in 45 games this season. His numbers are also good for 7th among all ECHL first-year players. Matt Tassone has been a solid weapon for Elmira as well, collecting 25 tallies (14g, 11a) in 26 tilts. Goaltender Travis Fullerton has led the way in net for the Jackals, going 14-5-0-4 with a 2.55 goals-against average. And with Sam Marotta on reserve, Elmira has added Nick Niedert to fill the role of back-up. Niedert earned the victory in net for the Jackals on Wednesday night, coming on in relief to make 16 saves on 17 shots for his only ECHL win of the season.
Last Time Out: Back-up goaltender Branden Komm was thrust into action late in the game and ended up stealing the show as he led the Cyclones past the Wings by a 5-4 shootout final score in front of 2,007 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. The Cyclone set a season high with 46 shots on net.
Milestone Approach: Cyclones forward Josh Shalla is closing in on another personal milestone. He needs just seven points to reach 100 in his Cincinnati career. In 108 games with the 'Clones, the Whitby, Ontario native has collected 51 goals and 42 assists. He ranks sixth on the club's all-time list with 10 game-winning goals.
Speaking of Milestones: Cincy defenseman Chris Reed is also nearing a big time benchmark. After tonight former Ohio State Buckeye needs just two games to reach 200 in his pro career. He has tallied seven goals and 38 assists since coming out of Columbus in 2011.
