Indy Fuel News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - In the seventh of ten head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel gutted out a tight-checking victory over the Evansville IceMen on Friday at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Fuel improved to 16-22-4-3 overall this season and with 39 points, remain alone in sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings.

After the IceMen stormed to a 1-0 lead at 8:34 of the opening period thanks to a second-effort Robin Soudek score, the Fuel tied the game at 13:21 when Indy tough guy Johnny McGuire muscled a low-glove equalizer past Evansville goaltender Chris Driedger on feeds from Evan Vossen and Nick Jones. Then, in the period's final minute, a coast-to-coast Justin Holl rush led to a Nicklas Lindberg centering feed that found Fuel captain Mike Duco, who finished the transition play with his 11th goal of the season, a marker that gave Indy a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

In a wild middle stanza, the Fuel pushed their lead to 3-1 in the period's opening minute, as Vincent Arseneau wedged home a power-play tally at 0:35. Evansville's Myles Bell scratched the IceMen back within a goal with his ninth marker of the season at 8:04 before a rebound score by Matt White made it 4-2 Fuel at 16:13 with Vossen and Sam Posa collecting assists on the play. Evansville got the last laugh in the frame though, as a Brandon Wong breakaway score made it 4-3 with less than a second remaining in the middle period.

After battling through a scoreless third period, the Fuel emerged with a one-goal win thanks to 29 saves from Indy goaltender Mac Carruth. The reigning Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month has now claimed victory in each of his past eight appearances in net for the surging Fuel.
