TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (26-12-2-4) begin a three-game road trip against the Colorado Eagles (30-14-0-1). Although both teams have four wins against each other, the Reign hold the regular season series edge by virtue of obtaining a point in its Dec. 19 overtime loss to Colorado. The trip marks the final time during the regular season that the Reign will visit the Budweiser Events Center.
MONKEY OFF THE BACK:
Derek Couture finally found the back of the net in the second period of Saturday's game against Idaho to set the new Reign record for career goals scored with 84. After previously getting his 81st, 82nd, and record-tying 83rd goals in consecutive games, the Reign captain then experienced a nine-game drought. Couture has still managed to rank among the team leaders in goal scoring with 15 tallies.
BROWN CONTINUES POINT STREAK:
Dennis Brown's goal in the second period not only marked the rookie blueliner's first pro tally, but it also extended his point streak to a season-high three games (1g-2a).
SPECIAL TEAMS CLICKING:
The Reign have managed at least one goal on the man advantage over their last four games (5-for-18), while only surrendering one goal while on the penalty kill (16-for-17). This has helped vault the Reign into the top 10 teams in the ECHL on the power-play (currently ranked eighth as of Thursday).
CANNATA BOUNCES BACK:
After being handed his second consecutive start for the first time since the regular season, Joe Cannata turned in a solid performance on Saturday, making 25 saves on 26 shots against. His 2.04 goals-against average leads the ECHL.
