Mavericks Beat the Rush, 3-2
October 20, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Kansas City Mavericks (2-0-0-0) remained unblemished on the young season with a 3-2 win over the Rapid City Rush (0-3-0-0) Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The teams went tied into the first intermission, the Rush scoring less than four minutes into the game but Jared VanWormer answering back later in the frame with his first-career shorthanded goal. The tie through 20 minutes was the second time in two games that KC went into the locker rooms tied 1-1 after one period.
The Mavs and Rush then traded blows in the second, with Kansas City jumping on top 2-1 on a goal from Joey Sides, his first as a Maverick, 2:23 into the frame. After the home team responded with the tying score, Matt Robertson put KC back on top with a lamp lighter halfway through the frame to produce a 3-2 lead that stuck through the intermission.
Both teams went scoreless in the final frame, allowing the Mavericks to hold on for a 3-2 win.
The Mavericks and Rush close out their weekend series on Sunday, a 4:05 p.m. CT matinee.
