Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that goaltender Joel Martin has been returned from his loan to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and that the club has acquired defenseman Bryan Rodney from the Fresno Falcons for future considerations.
Martin has appeared in eleven games this season for the Jackals with an 8-3-0 record with two shutouts, a 2.80 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. For Martin it was his second AHL call-up of the season. He was with the Binghamton Senators to start their season in October, but did not appear in any games.
Rodney, a 23-year old native of London, Ontario, has appeared in 121 ECHL contests with Charlotte and Columbia with 10 goals and 58 assists for 68 points along with 83 PIM. In 17 games this season with the Inferno, Rodney was 2+9=11 with 10 PIM. He was traded to Fresno November 27th, but did not appear in any games with the Falcons before coming to Elmira.
"Getting Bryan fills an immediate need on the blue line both defensively and offensively," said Jackals coach Steve Martinson. "Our power play has struggled to find some consistency in the first quarter of the season, but Bryan will provide an offensive mindset from the point."
The 6-foot, 210-pound defender skated his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 234 points in 311 career OHL contests over four seasons with Ottawa, Kingston and London. He saved his best for last in his final two junior campaigns, notching 65 assists and 76 points with Kingston in 2003-04 and potting a career-best 23 goals as part of a 62-point campaign with London in 2004-05.
