Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, wrapped up the most ambitious portion of its early season schedule with a pair of games in Ohio last week with a record of 1-1. The win at Dayton and a loss the following night in Cincinnati left the Jackals with a 10-3 record during a 13-game stretch that occurred in just twenty days. The run allowed the Jackals to ascend to the top of the North Division of the American Conference. Idle this weekend, the Jackals were joined at the top of the division by Cincinnati following a pair of wins by the Cyclones Friday and Saturday.
Overall: 13-6-0-1 (27 pts.) Last Week: 1-1-0-0 (2 pts.) T-1st North Division/ T-2nd American Conference
Tuesday, Nov. 27th - @ DAYTON (3-2so W) Att: 1,999 Shots: ELM 25-24 PP: 1/5 PK: 6/6
The Jackals were unable to hang onto a 2-1 lead heading into the third period and were forced to go the shootout route for its seventh straight victory. It was not a pretty night for goaltenders in the one-on-one rounds as seven of the nine attempts were successful. DAN LaCOSTA was good enough to stop 22 shots in 65 minutes of action and two of five shooters to gain his fifth win in a row. KEVIN ULANSKI's shot in the fifth round of the shootout squeezed between the pads of Bombers netminder JEREMY DUCHESNE and trickled across the goal line for the game-winner. Participating in their fourth shootout of the year, the Jackals scored a season-best four times in five tries.
Wednesday, Nov. 28th - @ CINCINNATI (1-7 L) Att: 629 Shots: CIN 33-25 PP: 1/6 PK: 1/3
Elmira's season-high seven-game winning streak was blown away early as the Cyclones, leading 1-0, tacked on a pair of goals eleven seconds apart in the first period to go up 3-0 and never look back. The Jackals only strike came from captain FRANK LITTLEJOHN's power play goal with Cincinnati already enjoying a 7-0 advantage. The loss allowed the second place Cyclones to pull to within four points of the North Division-leading Jackals, a gap that was completely whittled away by Cincinnati with a pair of weekend wins with Elmira idle until December 5th.
