IMPRESSIVE PRO DEBUT: New Lynx goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert had an impressive pro debut this past week, posting two wins in the Lynx perfect week. Goepfert's first career pro game came this past Tuesday with a solid performance in net during the Lynx 9-1 win. Although the score was lopsided, Goepfert made several key saves early in the game and stopped 23 of 24 shots. FERGUSON SETS RECORD: With the 3-2 win on Friday over Mississippi, Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson became the all-time wins leader in Augusta Lynx history with his 79th career win behind the bench. The week that was:
Tuesday, November 27, Augusta Lynx 9 @ Pensacola Ice Pilots 1
It was a record-setting night for the Augusta Lynx as they finished off a seven-day, four-game road trip with a resounding 9-1 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots. #19 Aaron Slattengren set a new Augusta Lynx franchise record with seven points in the game, which included four goals and three assists. Slattengren's four goals gave him 15 on the season, which leads the ECHL. Slattengren was also a remarkable +8 on the evening. #23 John Laliberte also had a phenomenal night, also scoring four goals and adding two assists for a six-point evening. The Lynx wasted no time getting on the board as Laliberte scored on a rebound drive as Slattengren let a drive go from the left hand circle. Slattengren would give the Lynx a 2-0 lead and add his first as he squeezed home a rebound with assists from Laliberte and #9 Louis Goulet. #12 Ryan Dingle made it 3-0 just over a minute later with a backhand goal in front with an assist to #11 Matt Christie. The rest of the period was highlighted by Lynx goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert, who in his pro debut was sharp early. The only goal that ended up getting past Goepfert was a late 1st period power play goal that made it 3-1 at the end of one period. The 2nd period was all Lynx as they scored three more goals. Laliberte posted his second of the game with a one-timer with help from Slattengren and Goulet to make it 4-1. Slattengren then scored the next two, the first with more help from Laliberte and #25 Adrian Veideman. Slattengren's hat-trick was an unassisted effort that gave the forward his second hat-trick within a week and gave the Lynx a 6-1 lead heading into the 2nd intermission. The 3rd period was the John Laliberte show as he scored the first two of the period for his 3rd and 4th goals of the night. The Lynx made it 7-1 when Laliberte tipped home a drive from #27 Nick Toneys, and the score moved to 8-1 with a Laliberte one-timer with a perfect pass from Slattengren. The night was capped by Slattengren's 4th of the night with a face-off win from #18 Igor Pohanka. It was Pohanka's 4th straight game with a point.
Friday, November 30, Mississippi SeaWolves 2 @ Augusta Lynx 3
It was a hard-fought battle at the James Brown Arena on Friday night between the Lynx and the SeaWolves, but the Lynx would hang on the entire 3rd period to a 3-2 lead and defeat Mississippi for the 10th win of the season. Head Coach Bob Ferguson won his 79th career game behind the bench for the Lynx setting the all-time franchise mark set by the first coach in Lynx history, Dan Wiebe. The Lynx got on the board late in the 1st period with a goal from #20 Matt Auffrey, who's pass intended for #11 Matt Christie went off a SeaWolves defenseman and behind goaltender Morgan Cey. Christie and #12 Ryan Dingle would get assists. Minutes later #27 Nick Toneys would score his first goal in a Lynx uniform as he wristed home a shot from the point on the power play with another assist to Christie. The SeaWolves would get back in the game with 2nd perio goals from Stanislav Lascek and Travis Lisabeth, but a goal from Ryan Dingle sandwiched in between would prove to be just enough for the Lynx. Goaltender #35 JP Levasseur got his 5th win of the year, stopping 20 of 22 SeaWolves shots, while the Lynx poured in 39 shots on goal.
Saturday, December 1, Augusta Lynx 2 @ Columbia Inferno 1 (overtime)
Back from the jaws of defeat, the Lynx used a power play/extra attacker goal from #23 John Laliberte with 1:01 remaining in the 3rd period, and a clutch goal in overtime from #11 Matt Christie to finally capture a win in Columbia against the Inferno, 2-1. #30 Bobby Goepfert was solid in his second start in a Lynx uniform, stopping 25 of 26 Inferno shots. Goepfert was the unfortunate recipient of a bad hop off the end boards just :40 seconds into the game as Owen Fussey gave the Inferno the lead, which lasted almost the entire 60 minutes. But, the never-say-die Lynx killed off a penalty kill with less than four minutes remaining and got a power play with a little over a minute to go. With Goepfert pulled for the extra attacker, the six on four paid off as two chances in front from #9 Louis Goulet and #19 Aaron Slattengren were denied, but Laliberte made the last chance pay, smashing home the loose puck for his 11th goal of the season. In the overtime, the Lynx outshot the Inferno 3-1, and finally took home the win in Augusta as Matt Christie swooped in from the right face-off dot and fired a snap shot underneath Todd Ford for the 3rd Lynx win in a row. This marks the first time this season that the Lynx have been on a winning streak of three games.
