Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies were in San Antonio Friday, facing off against the Rampage in what would be a spirited affair. The first period saw two goals on the power play courtesy of the combined 50 penalty minutes in the frame. The first goal on the man advantage would go to San Antonio's Shane O'Brien; whose point shot found its way past goaltender Christopher Gibson. Toronto would respond with their own power play marker 1:42 later from Captain Trevor Smith. The rest of the period would see no scoring however it would include four fighting majors and strong physicality from both sides. While the second period provided a break from the punishing physical play, it would include a goal from San Antonio's Andrew Yogan, his first of the year. The third period would prove to be Toronto's best of the game; taking advantage of their chances to score twice. The period began with Christopher Gibson making one of his 40 stops on the night on a breakaway awarded to the Rampage's Mark Mancari. The save provided the Marlies a burst of momentum which translated to a goal from Tom Nilsson, who unloaded a slap shot past the Rampage's Dan Ellis for his first goal as a Marlie. Just over a minute later Connor Brown would put Toronto ahead on a tip-in orchestrated by Greg McKegg. Toronto would withstand 1:30 of hectic 6 on 5 hockey to close the period, earning the 3-2 victory.

Toronto continues their road trip Saturday when the Marlies travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Barons, AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers at 8:00 p.m. (E.S.T)
