Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, ME- The Portland Pirates (7-5-0-0) continued their win streak and dominance at home with a 3-0 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (5-5-1-0) Saturday Night at the Cross Insurance Arena. It was Military Appreciation Night for the Pirates, and the team did not disappoint clad in their stars and stripes jerseys.

It was a chippy night between the Phantoms and Pirates, but Portland outmuscled their opponents to pick up their first shutout of the year. Special teams continued to be a bright spot for the Pirates with one of the Pirates three goals coming on a power play. This was the fifth straight game where the Pirates were able to convert thanks to their specialty units.

The Pirates netted their first goal of the night deep in the first period with a 19:10 goal from Jordan Szwarz, assisted by Brendan Shinnimin and Joel Hanley. They carried the momentum from that into the second period, with a goal at 1:44 scored by Henrik Samuelsson, assisted by captain Alex Bolduc and assistant captain Andrew Campbell. Portland added one more for good measure later on in the frame, with a power play goal scored by Lucas Lessio, assisted by Shinnimin and Oberg.

Net minder Mike McKenna (3-4-0) was masterful in the game, saving all 27 shots fired his way. Lehigh Valley's Rob Zepp (5-2-0) tended goal and allowed 3 of 40 Pirates shots.

The Pirates return to action Tuesday, November 11, with a game at the Cross Insurance Arena against the Manchester Monarchs, the second time the two teams will meet this season as part of the VIP Cup Series presented by VIP Tires and Service. The Pirates will then play host to the Albany Devils for two games on Friday and Saturday nights. For more information or to order tickets, call 207-PIRATES.
