Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons fell to the Manchester Monarchs, 2-1, tonight at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The loss brings the Falcons to 6-6-1-0 on the season. The Monarchs advance to 6-4-0-0 and take a one game lead in the four-game season series.
Springfield goaltender Scott Munroe turned away 27 of 29 shots on goal, while Manchester goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 20 of 21. The Falcons were unable to convert on four power play opportunities, but shut down all five Monarchs man-advantages.
The Monarchs struck first and held the Falcons scoreless in the first period for only the third time this season. Brian O'Neill passed ahead to Nick Shore to start a two-on-one. Hubert Labrie went down to stop the cross-ice pass, allowing Shore to fire off a shot from the left wing circle and take a 1-0 lead with 4:44 remaining in the period. Jamie McBain earned credit for the secondary assist.
Shore notched his second goal with 2:59 remaining in the middle frame to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead. Shore picked off a pass from T.J. Tynan at the blue line to start a breakaway. He beat Munroe below the glove for a shorthanded tally.
The Falcons were able to cut the lead in the third period, but could not catch the Monarchs. Jerry D'Amigo fed Thomas Larkin at the hash marks. He played the puck towards the net, where Sean Collins put the Falcons on the board with 3:20 remaining in the contest.
The Springfield Falcons will return to the MassMutual Center on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to host the Worcester Sharks at 3 p.m.
