Barons Top Marlies, 4-3 in Overtime

Curtis Hamilton scored the game-winning goal in overtime and Brad Hunt netted two goals in his first game of the season with Oklahoma City as the Barons downed the Toronto Marlies 4-3 Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center.

At 6:38 of the 7:00 overtime period, Hamilton netted the winner when he put back the rebound on a Jason Williams shot for his second goal of the season. Williams assisted in three of the Barons' four goals.

Hunt's first goal of the game came at 7:32 of the second period, when he received a pass from Andrew Miller at the point and rifled a shot past Toronto goalie Cam Heeter, tying the game at two.

At 11:31 of the second, Hunt gave the Barons their first lead of the game when he took a pass from Williams and again let loose a slap shot from the point that eluded Heeter.

Hunt's two goals marked his first multi-goal game since Feb. 21, 2014 against Grand Rapids.

The Barons registered a new club record with 52 shots in the game, the most since a 51-shot showing against the Marlies on Nov. 7, 2010.

With 48 saves, Toronto's Heeter set a record for saves in a game against Oklahoma City, replacing the previous record of 46 set by San Antonio's Jacob Markstrom on Jan. 18, 2013.

Toronto took a 1-0 lead at 4:13 of the first period after a point-blank shot by Greg McKegg was stopped by Oklahoma City goaltender Richard Bachman, but rebounded to the Marlies' Brad Ross who jammed the puck into the Oklahoma City net.

The Barons' league-leading power play added to its early-season success as Ryan Hamilton evened the score at one when he skated to the right side of the net and flipped a wrist shot past Heeter at 9:52. Ryan Hamilton's goal came after a tripping penalty was assessed to the Marlies' Ross at 8:05.

At the 12:39 mark, the Marlies regained the lead when McKegg netted his second goal, firing a shot into the Barons net after Ross collided with Bachman on a diving pursuit for a loose puck, giving Toronto a 2-1 lead.

After Hunt's goals in the second period gave the Barons a 3-2 lead, Tyler Biggs knotted the score once again when he received a centering pass from the right corner by Brett Findlay and wristed a shot past Bachman at 8:19.

Curtis Hamilton's game winning goal came during 3-on-3 play under new AHL overtime rules.

The Barons travel to San Antonio next, where they take on the Rampage Sunday, Nov. 9, in a 4 p.m. start at the AT&T Center.
