Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - Kris Newbury scored two of the four Hershey Bears goals in a third period that saw the hosts turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night at GIANT Center.
After two successful penalty kills in the first period, Hartford would strike first at the 13:40 mark. Oscar Lindberg skated ahead of Mat Bodie and collected a short pass from the defenseman. He then lifted a shot from in close into the upper-right corner, beating Philipp Grubauer for his sixth goal of the season.
The Wolf Pack padded their lead in the second period, using their speed to force a two-on-one rush. J.T. Miller flew down the slot, and one-timed a pass from Jesper Fast behind Grubauer for a 2-0 advantage.
Hershey dug down and began their comeback on its fifth power play of the game. Tomas Kundratek fed a pass to Chris Brown, who let a low shot go that slid inside the left post behind Cedrick Desjardins at 10:07.
Just 1:06 later, the Giant Center crowd was on its feet cheering a tying goal. On an individual effort, Connor Carrick skated into the Hartford zone and swept a shot toward the net. The puck slid directly through Desjardins' pads for Carrick's first of the season.
The Bears forged ahead with 3:18 remaining in the period, on a slapper from the left half wall by Casey Wellman. Newbury was stationed at the net front, and tipped the shot behind Desjardins for his seventh goal of the season.
Newbury then hit the empty net with 7.8 seconds left to punctuate the win.
Grubauer made 28 saves to improve to 4-3-1, while Desjardins suffered his first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1-0 with a 29-save effort.
With the win, the Bears snap a three-game winless skid and stay perfect at Giant Center (3-0-0-0). The club also holds the East Division lead, improving to 7-4-1-0.
