Sound Tigers Power Play Defeats Devils

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- ? The Bridgeport Sound Tigers were nearly perfect on the power play scoring six of their seven goals on the man-advantage, defeating the Albany Devils 7-2 Saturday at Webster Bank Arena. Bridgeport, now 7-3-0-1 move ahead of the Devils, who are 6-3-1-1, in the standings.

Harry Zolnierczyk scored the first power-play goal just 1:56 into the period, a wrister from a sharp angle. Alan Quine made it 2-0 after drawing a slashing penalty to David Wohlberg at 18:51.

The second period saw three goals in the first 8:19. Peter Harrold got the Devils on the board with a power-play goal, his first of the season, at 4:43. Harrold found Raman Hrabarenka's pass in the far circle and beat Bridgeport's netminder Kevin Poulin to make it 2-1. Hrabarenka and Scott Timmins picked up their seventh and eighth assists of the season, respectively. Bridgeport answered with back-to-back goals at 7:53 and 8:19, the goals coming from Mike Halmo on the man-advantage and John Persson.

The teams exchanged goals late in the period. Colin McDonald tallied the Sound Tigers fourth power-play goal of the night at 17:03 to make it 5-1 and Chris McKelvie scored with 24 seconds to go. Seth Helgeson was credited with the lone assist on McKelvie's first of the season.

In the third, Kael Mouillierat jammed in a rebound at 2:20 and Zolnierczyk scored his second of the night at 14:17, both goals coming on the power play.

Scott Clemmensen relieved Scott Wedgewood midway through the second period. Wedgewood played the first 28:13 stopped eight of 12 shots faced. Clemmensen turned aside 15 shots.

Albany, who owned a 36-30 shot advantage went 1-8 on the power play and 6-8 on the penalty kill.

Game Notes

Peter Harrold scored his first goal of the season ... Raman Hrabarenka who was credited with the assists on Harrold's goal is ranked fourth among AHL defensemen with 10 points (3g, 7a) ... Scott Clemmensen made his second appearance of the season after relieving Scott Wedgewood 8:13 into the second period ... Harrold recorded a team-high six shots.

The Devils play the second half of a two-game series with the Sound Tigers tomorrow at Webster Bank Arena. Puck drops at 3 pm.
