IceHogs Try for Eight Straight

November 8, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill. - With an American Hockey League franchise record already in tow, the Rockford IceHogs (9-2-0-1) begin to chase their all-time longest winning streak on Saturday night when they host Grand Rapids during Military Appreciation Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

The first 2,500 fans through the gates for the 7 p.m. puck drop will receive an IceHogs camouflage hat courtesy of Pepsi. Additionally all active and former military personnel are eligible to receive free admission and discounted tickets for family and friends, with the presentation of a valid ID.

Tickets are available at the BMO Harris Bank Center box office and at all Ticketmaster locations, as well as online at IceHogs.com or by calling 815-968-5222. The game will be broadcast on 23.2 Antenna TV and on the web through AHL Live.

The IceHogs are riding a seven-game winning streak into Saturday night, the longest streak in their eight-year AHL history. The all-time franchise record for consecutive wins stands at 11, set from Jan. 18-Feb. 12, 2006, when Rockford was a member of the UHL.

The winning streak is part of the second-best start in franchise history, a start that finds the IceHogs currently at the top of the AHL with 19 points. Just like with the winning streak, this year's squad is chasing a mark set by the 2005-06 IceHogs, who started the season with a 13-2-0-1 record.

Rockford grabbed their seventh-straight win on Thursday when they hung on for a 5-3 triumph over the Iowa Wild. After racing to a 4-0 lead, the IceHogs were able to withstand a furious comeback attempt by the hometown Wild, who rallied with three straight to make it a one-goal game in the third period.

Captain Joakim Nordstrom led a red-hot Rockford offense scoring two of the team's three power play goals on Thursday afternoon, while fellow second-year forward Mark McNeill recorded his third-straight game with a goal scored. McNeill currently leads the IceHogs with 12 points (6g-6a) through 12 games.

Saturday night marks the second of eight meetings between the IceHogs and Griffins, following a 2-1 IceHogs win at Van Andel Arena on Oct. 29. Grand Rapids is hoping to reverse a different kind of streak, as they are the losers of five-straight, including a 4-0 defeat in Milwaukee last night. The Griffins have played well outside of Michigan, however, holding a 3-1 road record.

NEXT HOME GAME: Friday, Nov. 14, vs. Milwaukee Admirals. Game time is at 7 p.m. The IceHogs look to avenge their opening night defeat at the hands of the Admirals as the two begin a home-and-home series. The first 2,500 fans will receive an IceHogs cowbell courtesy of BMO Harris Bank.
