Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies, a proud member of the American Hockey League, today announced the details for their "Pink in the Rink" game which will take place on Sunday, February 8 versus the Grand Rapids Griffins - AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings - at 4:00 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Marlies have teamed up with the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation to help raise cancer awareness. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation purchased a large group of tickets for the game on Sunday, with five dollars of each ticket sale going to cancer research. In conjunction with Mary Kay, the Toronto Marlies will donate a portion of individual ticket sales to the cause as well.

As part of the Marlies "Pink in the Rink" Day, one player from the team will dye his hair pink to support the event. Players participating include: Alex Foster, Darryl Boyce, Tim Stapleton, Kyle Rogers, Mark Bell and Jaime Sifers.

Fans can support any of these players by donating money at the Marlies next two home games on January 31 and February 7. The player that raises the most money will dye their hair pink and skate without a helmet during warm-ups for the February 8 game against Grand Rapids. The Marlies ‘Better Halves' will be collecting money outside of section 117, with all the fundraising going to the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.

The Marlies will wear pink ribbon decals on their helmets to support the fight against cancer, and some players will use pink tape in the game. In addition, Marlies defenceman Staffan Kronwall will use a special pink stick during the game. The Marlies coaching staff will also show their support by wearing pink ties.

A silent auction featuring Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Toronto Marlies merchandise will take place on the concourse before and during the game on Sunday. The Marlies ‘Better Halves', the wives and girlfriends of the players, will be selling Marlies action shots, signed with a pink Sharpie by the player.

The Marlies host the Rockford IceHogs - AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks - tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The first 5,000 fans attending the game will receive a Doug Gilmour bobblehead. Saturday's game will air live on Rogers TV Cable 10 in Toronto and 63 in Scarborough. Fans can listen to all Toronto Marlies regular season games on THE FAN 590 or fan590.com.
