San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (January 30, 2009) - Rampage forward Kevin Porter scored two goals, including the game winner, as San Antonio twice came back from deficits and scored three third period goals to beat Quad City 4-2 in front of a season high 8,412 fans at the AT&T Center.

Quad City, fresh off a 5-0 shutout of Houston, was looking to do a Texas two-step and put an all-out assault on Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman in the first, tying a franchise record with 25 shots against. Thanks to a series of penalties late in the period, Quad City benefited from nearly five minutes of penalty time including three different 5-on-3 advantages. The Flames cashed in their first 5-on-3 chance when Kyle Greentree's shot from the bottom of the right circle deflected up the right leg pad of Tordjman to the back of the net for a Quad City 1-0 lead at 15:51 of the first period.

Tordjman, however, made some spectacular stops to hold the Flames to just the single first period goal and San Antonio took advantage of their own power-play opportunity 7:43 into the second frame when Kevin Porter found an open net after David Spina's shot deflected to him at the doorstep. Flames goalie Matt Keetley never had a chance as Porter lifted his third goal of the season into the net for a 1-1 tie.

Quad City regained the lead at 15:12 when Brett Palin nabbed a power-play goal just seven seconds into the man advantage. After controlling the draw Jamie Lundmark shot a pass across the ice that was deflected out of the slot, but still within Palin's reach. Palin had the angle and sent a wrister past Tordjman's stick side for a 2-1 Flames advantage.

The Rampage, 1-21 when trailing entering the third, tied it up just thirty-nine seconds in when Chad Kolarik's shot from the top of the right circle knotted the game at 2-2. It was Kolarik's 13th goal of the season and 5th power-play goal as the Rampage took advantage of a power-play carryover from the second period.

Later, Porter scored his second goal of the night and gave the Rampage their first lead of the game as the Rampage continued their assault. Derek Nesbitt sent a wrister from just outside the left circle that deflected off the chest of Keetley. Kolarik was stopped on the initial rebound by Keetley, but Porter punched the puck across the line as Keetley lay helpless in front of his goal. Porter's 4th goal of the season gave San Antonio a 3-2 lead with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.

Brett MacLean gave San Antonio an insurance goal with 2:33 left in the third when he picked up the puck from behind the net and scored on a wraparound for a 4-2 Rampage lead.

The win snaps San Antonio's two-game home losing streak and moves them to within a point of Quad City for seventh place in the West.
