SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today that C Janis Sprukts has been loaned to the Latvian National Team and will participate in the 2010 Olympic qualifying tournament to be held in Riga, Latvia from Feb. 5-8. Sprukts will return to Rochester and be eligible to play when the Americans open a five-game road trip in Iowa on Feb. 10.

"This is an excellent chance for Janis to gain further experience playing at the international level," said Martin. "He has provided the Americans with a consistent effort all season long and he is very deserving of this opportunity to represent his native country. We are also very pleased that the Rochester ownership group recognizes the importance of Janis playing in this tournament and for agreeing with this mutual decision."

Sprukts, 26, has played in 39 games with Rochester this season and paces the club with 28 points (12-16-28). He has played in 14 career NHL contests all with Florida scoring one goal with two assists and two PIM.
