Manitoba Moose News Release

An early two-goal deficit proved too much for the Manitoba Moose to overcome, as the Rockford IceHogs finished on top of a 4-1decision to beat the Moose for the second time in as many nights at the MTS Centre. Pierre-Cedric Labrie scored Manitoba's lone goal while Moose turned IceHogs Jimmy Sharrow and Danny Groulx both registered points against their former club. Manitoba now holds a 1-1-0-1 record against Rockford this season, with one more game to play on March 21st.

Although the Moose had a sell-out home-ice advantage, the IceHogs struck first a mere 20 seconds into the game. Approaching Moose netminder Cory Schneider, Tim Brent snapped the puck through his five-hole, with help from former Moose Jimmy Sharrow, to earn an early one-goal lead.

Minutes later, Rockford outmaneuvered the Moose again. At 2:57 Adam Pineault wired the puck over Schneider's glove hand to expand the IceHogs lead, 2-0.

Manitoba benefited from the first powerplay of the night, when Evan Brophey was penalized for holding the stick. Even wiith the extra-attacker, Manitoba was only able to rack up two shots on the man-advantage and failed to break Antti Niemi to get on the board.

With four-minutes left to go in the opening frame, Tommy Maxwell and Andrew Archer exchanged punches in front of the visiting net. After both players fell to the ice, in a fight that was dominated by Maxwell, both guilty parties left the ice to serve their five-minute fighting majors.

The second period saw early scoring action from former Moose defenseman Danny Groulx, who slapped the puck over Schneider's glove to extend the visitors lead to three unanswered goals. The Moose opted to switch goaltenders after the goal, putting Curtis Sanford between the pipes.

A tripping penalty at 6:15 put the Moose on their third powerplay of the night. With seconds left on the five-on-four, a pass from Guillaume Desbiens was completed by Pierre-Cedric Labrie to put the Moose on the board, 3-1.

Near the midway point of the final frame, defenseman Daniel Rahimi was called out for interference. The Moose's penalty killers remained strong and Sanford denied all opposing shots in the two-minutes.

Heated tussles and key saves at both ends of the ice highlighted most of the third, but Tim Brent's empty-netter in the final minute of play sealed a 4-1 win for the IceHogs.
