Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Kelsey Wilson recorded a Gordie Howe hat-trick, including two goals in under a minute in the third period to push the hard working Milwaukee Admirals past the Chicago Wolves by a score of 5-4 Friday night.
Thirty-seven seconds is all it took for Wilson to add two goals to his assist and first period fight, and it sure did come at a good time. At 15:28 of the third period, the Admirals were on the power-play when Cody Franson fired a rocket slapshot from the point and Wilson was there to tip it in and tie the score at four apiece.
The game-winner for Wilson came off a rebound shortly after his first marker of the evening. It was Ryan Maki who drove the puck in down the right-wing side and fired a shot that bounced hard off of Chicago goalie Ondrej Pavelec's legpad, and came right out to Wilson who fired it in for the go-ahead goal of the game.
"He's a good presence on the power play in front of the net. I made the decision this morning that he was going to play on the powerplay in front of the net, and low and behold, he makes something happen when he's doing that," said Admirals head coach Lane Lambert.
It was a back and forth game the whole night as the Admirals were up by two after the first period after getting goals from Cody Franson and Maki, but after the second period it was tied 2-2 when Chicago's Joey Crabb and Spencer Machacek evened the score.
"I liked our start, I liked our finish, I didn't like the second period. I thought we let them back into the game with some lackluster play that there's no excuse for," said Lambert.
Patrick Hornqvist gave the Admirals another lead when he tipped another Franson slapshot in at 1:26 of the third, but Chicago answered back with two goals. The biggie that put them in the lead was a break-away goal by Jordan LaVallee after receiving a flip pass from across the other side of the ice from Brian Sipotz.
But Wilson's heroics send the crowd of 8,510 happy.
"It was great, the crowd was into it. I thought they were very vocal and it's great when you play in front of a crowd like that," noted Lambert.
Kelsey Wilson didn't mind the extra help either.
"I thanked the fans after the game, we really appreciate their support. When I scored to tie it up, with how loud it was, we fed off of it. The excitement was really building through the fans."
Cody Franson had a three point night with a goal and two assists, and Ryan Maki also notched two points with one goal and one assist. Drew MacIntyre stopped 29 of Chicago's 33 shots, while Pavelec made 30 saves on the evening.
The Admirals hit the road tomorrow night at 7:00 pm in Quad City. The Ads return to the BC next Friday at 7:00 pm against the Rockford IceHogs.
