
Madden Smacks Fourth Homer in 5-3 Loss at Hartford

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Yard Goats (25-28, 62-58) scored four times off RHP Denyi Reyes (L, 7-10) to beat the Portland Sea Dogs (27-27, 54-67), 5-3 on Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts. Hartford takes three of four in the series and 12 of 18 on the season.
Hartford scored three runs on four hits in the second inning off Reyes. Bret Boswell started the rally with a single, and Mylz Jones hit a two-run homer. Manny Melendez knocked in the third run with an RBI single.
Reyes lasted five innings, his shortest outing since May 19th at Reading. The righty allowed six hits, four runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Charlie Madden got the 'Dogs on the board with a solo-homer off Alexander Guillen in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Madden knocked in his second run with a sacrifice. Nick Lovullo added a run-scoring single.
Hartford scored the final run-off Adam Lau in the seventh inning. Vance Vizcaino tripled and scored on a fielder's choice. Mitch Horacek (4-0) worked two scoreless innings for the win, and Scott Griggs notched his 12th save.
Lefty Jack Wynkoop started for Hartford and pitched three innings, but left before the fourth due to an undisclosed injury.
Jarren Duran went 2-for-4 with his team-leading 24th stolen base of the season. Luke Tendler reached base three times with two walks and a single.
The Sea Dogs start a three-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) on Friday night beginning at 7:05 PM from Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Bryan Mata (2-5, 6.23) takes on Fisher Cats righty Justin Dillon (4-2, 3.83). Radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:50 PM.
