Clinton LumberKings News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Clinton LumberKings were buried beneath an avalanche of Wisconsin Timber Rattlers offense falling 13-11 on Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field. LumberKings' (26-25) pitching surrendered a season high 17 hits and season high 13 runs to drop their second straight to Wisconsin (24-27).
Clinton initiated the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. J.D. Osborne broke a scoreless tie with a three-run home run to left that went for his first of the year.
The 3-0 LumberKings lead was wiped out in the bottom of the fourth inning when Wisconsin rallied for their first of two five-run rallies. George Soriano was charged with all five of the runs but failed to make it through the inning and turned in a 3.2 inning start. The Timber Rattlers sent 10-men to the plate during the rally, collecting five hits, to take their first lead of the night.
A seesaw battle then took place with Clinton tying the game in the top of the fifth. Jerar Encarnacion chased home the next LumberKings runs with a two-run double off the wall in right center field that tied the game at five.
The Timber Rattlers reclaimed their lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth. C.J. Carter allowed his only run of the night in the sixth on a fielding error that was charged to Christopher Torres at shortstop.
The LumberKings jumped back out in front in the top of the sixth with a three-run rally. The first three batters reached on singles and Connor Scott drove home the first two runs of the inning with a double to center. Scott was ruled to have over run the base runner at first and was called out on the play. Still, Clinton added one more run on a Torres RBI infield single that put Clinton on top 8-6.
Wisconsin tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and the game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when they erupted for their second five-run rally of the night.
Elkin Alcala (0-1) was charged with all of the runs and was given the loss for his time out. The Timber Rattlers sent 10-men to the plate in the inning to take a 13-8 lead.
Clinton added their final runs of the night with two men out in the inning. Sean Reynolds came off the bench as a pinch hitter and went to the opposite field in left with a three-run home run for his team leading eighth of the year.
Scotty Sunitsch (3-5) earned the win for Wisconsin for a two-inning outing in which he allowed no runs on two hits while walking none and striking out two.
The LumberKings will meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the series finale on Thursday night of the three-game series. Clinton will throw righty Jake Walters (0-0, 2.57) while Wisconsin will tap righty Adam Hill (5-3, 3.63).
