Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Lansing's Griffin Conine collected four extra base hits including two home runs to lead the Lugnuts to a 9-4 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night. The win gave the Lugnuts a series victory as they won two-of-three in the set.
The Lugnuts built a 3-0 lead over the first two innings and then added another run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-0. The Dragons responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Jay Schuyler reached on an error, went to third on a double by Juan Martinez, and scored on Shard Munroe's ground out as Martinez went to third. Miguel Hernandez's sacrifice fly brought in Martinez to make it 4-2.
But Lansing took a commanding lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, getting a solo home run from Conine and a two-run homer from Ryan Gold to make it 7-2. Conine added a two-run home run in the eighth to make it 9-2.
The Dragons closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning when Pabel Manzanero singled and Schuyler followed with a two-run home run, his second homer of the year, to make it 9-4.
Dragons starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus (1-5) was charged with the loss. De Jesus was hurt by his own fielding mistake in the first inning when Lansing scored two runs on De Jesus' error. De Jesus was charged with four runs (two earned) in four and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Eduardo Salazar replaced De Jesus and allowed three runs in two and one-third innings, surrendering five hits including two home runs with no walks and two strikeouts. Eddy Demurias replaced Salazar to start the eighth and worked two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Dragons finished the night with four hits. The home run by Schuyler and the double by Martinez were the club's two extra base hits.
Notes: Before the game on Thursday, the Dragons received right-handed relief pitcher Adrian Rodriguez from Advanced-A Daytona. Left-handed reliever Jerry D'Andrea was assigned to the Billings roster and headed back to extended spring training in Goodyear, Arizona.
