Trenton Thunder News Release
HARTFORD, CT - Rashad Crawford's two-run double in the seventh inning pushed the Thunder to a 3-2 lead and the bullpen held the Yard Goats to just two baserunners over their final three at-bats in a 7-2 win on Wednesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park.
After Hartford righty Ashton Goudeau stymied the Thunder offense for six innings, limiting them to three hits, one walk and a career-high 12 strikeouts, the offense awoke against the Yard Goats bullpen. Trailing 2-1, the Thunder loaded the bases with one out in the seventh on a bunt single and a pair of groundball singles through the infield. Rashad Crawford then lined a 3-1 pitch into the alley in right-center off Rayan Gonzalez to take a 3-2 lead for the Thunder.
The offense put the game away with four runs in the top of the eighth inning against Justin Lawrence taking advantage of a pair of walks to start the frame. Zack Zehner reached on an infield single, scoring Ben Ruta, to make it 4-2 and Kyle Holder kept the line moving with a sacrifice bunt. Wendell Rijo put the finishing touches on the win with a double down the first base line scoring two runs and Kellin Deglan plated his second run of the night with a single.
Rijo, Deglan and Crawford, the bottom third of the order, accounted for the majority of the offense on Wednesday night. The three combined to go 6-for-12 with six runs batted in, including Deglan's first homer in a Thunder uniform.
Deivi Garcia made the start for the Thunder and lasted 4.1 innings. Garcia worked around a 28-pitch fourth inning that stranded the bases loaded and was lifted following his fourth strikeout of the night in the fifth. Garcia allowed four hits, walked four and struck out four on 80 pitches.
Domingo Acevedo earned his sixth win of the season despite allowing two runs in the sixth inning. Brooks Kriske retired the side in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts and Brady Lail slammed the door with two scoreless innings of relief in his 2019 Thunder debut.
Your Thunder complete their road trip on Thursday night at 7:05pm against the Yard Goats. RHP Albert Abreu (2-4, 3.11) will start for the Thunder, LHP Jack Wynkoop (4-5, 3.23) will go for Hartford. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:50pm on 920 AM The Jersey and online www.TrentonThunder.com/Broadcast.
