Late Homer Erases O'Brien's Strong Start in 2-1 Loss at Stripers

Louisville Bats News Release
GWINNETT, Ga. - Riley O'Brien pitched a gem, tossing 7.0 innings with just four hits and an unearned run, and Beau Taylor homered in the fifth, but Orlando Arcia went deep with two outs in the eighth inning to lift the Gwinnett Stripers (7-3) over the Louisville Bats (3-6) 2-1 on Friday night at Coolray Field.
O'Brien was more than solid in his second appearance this season, striking out six batters while issuing just one walk over his 7.0 innings of work. He yielded his lone unearned run when Arcia doubled in the fourth inning, took third on a passed ball and scored on a sac fly from Sean Kazmar. O'Brien otherwise limited Gwinnett to four or fewer batters each inning through the first six frames and stranded a final threat in the seventh to complete his quality start.
The Bats then collected two quick strikeouts to open the eighth inning. However, Arcia battled through an eight-pitch at-bat to connect on the go-ahead home run that gave Gwinnet the victory.
Taylor homered for Louisville in the fifth frame, jumping on his first pitch for a towering solo shot over the centerfield wall. The latest home run marks the third in the last two games for the Bats after the team managed to connect on just one in the first seven contests to open the season.
The Bats and Stripers will continue their six-game series inside Coolray Field Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Louisville RHP Bo Takahashi (0-0, 4.15) is expected to make his second appearance on the season when he takes on LHP Kyle Muller (0-0, 11.57).
