Last Year's Grizzlies Attending Dallas Training Camp

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Dallas Stars officially began their 2002 training camp today with 45 players, 16 of which spent time last season with the Grizzlies. Utah begins its third season as the top affiliate of the Stars and its second year in the American Hockey League.

The Star's camp officially begins in Valley Ranch, Texas but will shift venues to Breckenridge, Colorado on Friday afternoon. The first on-ice action begins with practices Saturday morning.

Former Grizz players attending camp include forwards Jeff Bateman, Justin Cox, Steve Gainey, Brett Draney, Niko Kapanen, Marcus Kristoffersson, Barrett Heisten, Jim Montgomery, Gavin Morgan, Jon Sim, defensemen John Erskine, Jeff MacMillan, Mark Wotton, Greg Hawgood, Dan Jancevski and goaltender Jason Bacashihua.

The Grizzlies had 11 players skate with both Utah and Dallas during the 2001-02 season including Gainey, Hawgood, Montgomery, Kapanen, Sim, Erskine, Rob Dimaio, John MacLean, Dave Manson, Benoit Brunet and Roman Lyashenko.

Star's goaltender camp began last Thursday with former Grizz netminder Corey Hirsch, Mike Smith, Marty Turco, Ron Tugnutt and Bacashihua participating.

A weeklong development camp began last Saturday including former Grizzlies Bacashihua, Hirsch, Jancevski, MacMillan, Erskine, Draney, Kristoffersson, Cox, Heisten, Bateman and Blaz Emersic.

Utah training camp begins on Tuesday, September 24 and runs through Sunday, September 29. The Grizzlies will play two Green-White intersquad games during camp taking place on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28 at the Acord Ice Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm each night. The games are open to the public with tickets costing $5.00 (proceeds will go towards high school hockey).
