Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have announced the addition of winger Christian Skoryna and netminder Fredrik Jensen to the 2002-03 roster. The Condors now have 21 players under contract for the upcoming campaign.

Skoryna, 29, played last season with Fresno, recording 20 points in 16 games before being placed on season-ending IR with a broken ankle. In 262 career games in the WCHL, East Coast Hockey League, International Hockey League and Germany, he has notched 126 goals and 303 points. The Elgin, Ontario native ranks in the top five in Falcons history in games, goals, assists and points. He led Fresno in scoring three straight seasons from 1998-99 to 2000-01.

Skoryna's best season came in 1999-00, when he was named the Falcons MVP. He bagged 40 goals and added 52 assists for 92 points. He was twice an All-Star in the WCHL. He also has had an extensive roller hockey career, playing six seasons and winning a championship in 1999 with St. Louis.

Jensen, 27, hails from Vetlanda, Sweden, and has played his entire career in his homeland. He spent the majority of last season in the Swedish Elite League with Linkopings, where he was a teammate of fellow Condor Christoffer Norgren. His best season came in 2000-01, with Linkopings in the Swedish 1st Division, when he put up a 1.19 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.

"Skoryna is a great fit for us," said Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly. "He's been a productive player throughout his career, and is a formidable scoring threat. His addition gives us two potentially strong scoring lines. Jensen comes highly recommended and has had success in Europe. Marty (Associate Coach Raymond) and I feel like we have a strong goaltending tandem with Jensen and Kevin St. Pierre."

The 2002-03 season opener is 30 days away with the Bakersfield Condors hosting the reigning Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons at Centennial Garden on Saturday, October 12th.
