Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators have signed goaltenders Edgars Eihvalds and Nate Bedford, forward Chris Taliercio and defenseman Justin Cholak to tryout agreements, head coach and vice president of hockey operations Dave Farrish announced Thursday. The quartet joins defenseman Jeff Worlton as players signed to tryout agreements for the upcoming 2002-03 training camp.

Eihvalds was the No. 3 goaltender behind Arturs Irbe (NHL Carolina) and Sergejs Naumovs on the Latvian national team that competed in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Eihvalds has spent this summer working out with Irbe, who led the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals in June.

Bedford is a product of the Ontario Provincial Junior "A" Hockey League, where he played with Lindsay for four seasons. Cholak comes to the IceGators from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, where he spent the last season with the Kindersley Klippers. Cholak had six points (2g, 4a) in 25 games last season. Previously, he played with St. Albert of the Alberta Junior Hockey League after three campaigns with Fort Saskatchewan. Cholak, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound blueliner, is a 21-year-old native of Sherwood Park, Alberta.

The IceGators open defense of their Brabham Cup regular-season championship on Saturday, Oct. 12, in Arkansas at 7 p.m. Louisiana's home opener is Sunday, Oct. 13 against the RiverBlades at 4:05 p.m. For ticket information, call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
