'Gades Sign Two More

Richmond, VA – The Richmond Renegades have signed forwards Justin Van Parys and Brad Parsons to contracts for the 2002-'03 season. Van Parys is a three year pro. Parsons is the fifth rookie signed by the ‘Gades.

Van Parys, a right wing, averaged over 115 penalty minutes in his first three pro seasons. He has played with Lake Charles and El Paso of the now-defunct WPHL and spent last season with the Buzzards in the CHL. He has 16 career points in 24 career playoff games.

Parsons was a four year regular at center for Princeton. He led the Tigers in power play goals as a junior and senior. Parsons was an honorable mention All Ivy League pick as a junior when he racked up a career high 14 goals. Parsons scored 36 career goals, 19 came on the power play. Parsons brother Don is a long time minor league sniper. Don Parsons scored 54 goals last season with Memphis of the CHL.

"Van Parys comes highly recommended as an energy guy, somebody who will stir it up," said Renegades Head Coach Gord Dineen. "He has a proven track record as a big game player," Dineen added. "Parsons is another rookie who put up solid college numbers. One area we need to improve is power play production. We expect Brad will step in and contribute there," Dineen said.

Parsons and Van Parys are the are the ninth and tenth players signed by the Renegades for the upcoming season. They join Russ Bartlett, Jamie Herrington, Peter Hogan, Scott Crawford, Ian Turner, Brian Goudie, Dan Vandermeer, and Richard Pitirri.

The ‘Gades open the 2002-'03 season Friday, October 11 at Trenton. Richmond opens at home on Friday, October 18 vs. Charlotte. Season tickets are now on sale for the Renegades 2002-'03 season. For more information please call the Renegades office at 643-7825.
