Lain Back to Vancouver, Kaunisto Returns

Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the club has recalled forward Kellan Lain from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. In addition, Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher has announced the Comets have signed forward Ray Kaunisto (kuh-NEE-stoh) to a professional tryout contract.

Lain, 24, has appeared in 42 games with the Comets this season and has registered 12 points (seven goals, five assists) along with a team-high 96 penalty minutes. This will be Lain's second stint in Vancouver after he made his NHL debut on Jan. 18 against Calgary. He scored his first NHL goal on Jan. 21 and saw action in a total of eight games with the Canucks before returning to Utica on Feb. 9.

The 6'6â=80", 217-pound forward originally signed with Vancouver as a free agent out of Lake Superior State on March 16, 2013.

Kaunisto, 27, rejoins the Comets from ECHL Kalamazoo where he has posted 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and 46 penalty minutes in 34 games. He originally joined the Comets on Feb. 5 and appeared in two games with Utica. He has appeared in a total 11 AHL games this season between the Lake Erie Monsters, Syracuse Crunch and Comets.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, the 6'4â=80", 185-pound forward played his college hockey at Northern Michigan University.
