LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Springfield (2/21): The Manchester Monarchs failed to complete the comeback with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Defenseman Colin Miller, forward Nick Shore, and center Jordan Weal each collected goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Paul Thompson scored twice and center Darryl Boyce added one tally for the Falcons. Manchester was unable to beat Falcons netminder Mike McKenna in four shootout attempts. Center Andrew Joudrey and left wing Jonathan Marchessault were able to beat Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones in the shootout to secure the win for Springfield. Jones (15-3-3) dropped his third shootout loss of the season, stopping 20-of-23 shots in regulation and one-of-three shootout attempts. McKenna (15-6-0) earned his 15th win of the season, stopping 38 of the 41 shots he faced in the game and all four Monarchs shootout snipers. Manchester was 1-for-5 on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

vs. Portland (2/22): Center Colin Fraser sparked a three-goal scoring frenzy in the third period as the Manchester Monarchs came from behind to win a 5-4 contest against the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Jordan Weal joined Fraser on the scoreboard with two goals and left wing Nick Deslauriers and right wing Zach O'Brien each added tallies for the Monarchs. Defenseman Daine Todd and left wing Lucas Lessio each scored once and left wing Brendan McMillan added two scores for the Pirates. Goaltender Martin Jones (16-3-3) collected his 16th win of the season, stopping 23-of-27 shots he faced in the game. Pirates netminder Louis Domingue (7-7-2) took his seventh loss of the season with 32 saves on 37 shots. Manchester was 0-for-5 on the power play. Portland went 3-for-6 with the man advantage.

vs. Worcester (2/23): Center Nick Shore tallied twice as the Manchester Monarchs finished off the weekend with a 4-2 victory over the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Left wing Nick Shore scored twice, and right wing Brian O'Neill and center Colin Fraser added goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Dan DaSilva and Center Marek Viedensky registered goals for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Mathias Niederberger (1-0-1) collected his first American Hockey League victory, stopping 30-of-32 shots he faced. Sharks netminder Troy Grosenick (11-9-0) took his ninth loss of the season with 15 saves on 18 shots. Manchester was 1-for-5 on the power play. Worcester went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (36-14-2-6) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 80 points. The St. John's IceCaps (32-19-1-3) rank second in the division with 68 points. The Providence Bruins (29-19-1-6) sit in third place in the Atlantic Division with 65 points. The Worcester Sharks (23-25-3-1) are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Division with 50 points. The Portland Pirates (19-24-2-7) sit in fifth place in the division with 47 points.

The Monarchs are ranked 27th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 34 goals on 236 attempts. Manchester is ranked 18th in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 198-of-242 times.

The Monarchs have had the most success on Saturdays (16-4-0-1).

Manchester currently leads the Eastern Conference and the AHL with 80 points through 58 games this season.

The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation through their past seven games (6-0-0-1).

Former Monarchs and current Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown and goaltender Jonathan Quick competed for the U.S. Olympic Men's Hockey team in Sochi, Russia. In five Olympic games, Brown collected two points (1-1=2). Quick (2-2-0) stopped 110-of-119 shots in a 7-1 win over Slovakia, a 3-2 shootout win over Russia, a 1-0 loss to Canada, and a 5-0 loss to Finland.

Former Monarchs and current Kings defenseman Slava Voynov represented Team Russia at the 2014 Olympics. Voynov had two shots and a plus-1 rating in four games at the Olympics.

Center Jordan Weal (15-35=50) leads the Monarchs with 35 assists and 50 points.

Weal recorded four points (3-1=4) in three games last weekend.

Weal is tied for sixth place in the AHL with 35 assists.

Weal is tied for eighth place in the AHL with 50 points.

Weal and right wing Tyler Toffoli (15-8=23) are tied for third on the Monarchs with 15 goals each.

Weal is ranked second amongst all forwards in the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-18 Left wing Nick Deslauriers (18-21=39) ranks second on the Monarchs with 39 points and 76 penalty minutes.

Deslauriers leads the Monarchs with 18 goals this season.

Deslauriers also leads the Monarchs and the AHL with 206 shots on goal.

Deslauriers ranks third on the team with 21 assists. Center Linden Vey (11-24=35) ranks third on the team with 35 points.

Vey ranks second on the team with 24 assists.

Vey collected his third four-point game when he tallied four assists the in Monarchs 5-1 win over the Sharks on Friday, February 14. He holds the franchise record with three four-point games in his Monarchs career.

Vey has also collected five assists in 15 games with the Kings this season. He was recalled to Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 18.

Left wing Tanner Pearson (17-15=32) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs with 32 points.

Pearson ranks second on the team with 17 goals this season.

Pearson has recorded one point, a goal, in eight games with the Kings this season. He was recalled to Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 18.

Forward Nick Shore (10-20=30) ranks fifth on the Monarchs with 30 points.

Shore collected three goals in three games last weekend.

Shore ranks fourth on the team with 20 assists.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (13-14') ranks sixth on the Monarchs with 27 points.

O'Neill is ranked fifth on the Monarchs with 13 goals.

O'Neill and Deslauriers are tied for third on the Monarchs with three game-winning goals.

O'Neill is ranked first amongst forwards in the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-19 rating.

Left wing Andy Andreoff (8-17=25) is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 25 points.

Andreoff leads the Monarchs with 113 penalty minutes.

Toffoli (15-8=23) is ranked eighth on the Monarchs with 23 points.

Toffoli was named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 16. He recorded five goals and two assists for seven points in three games to earn the honors.

Toffoli is tied with right wing Zach O'Brien (7-10=17) for first place on the Monarchs with four game-winning goals each.

Toffoli recorded his second hat trick of the season and fourth of his Monarchs career in the team's 5-1 win over the Sharks on Friday, February 14. Toffoli holds the record for the most career hat tricks in a Monarchs uniform.

Toffoli has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 37 games with the Kings. He was recalled to Los Angeles on Tuesday, February 18.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-16=21) and right wing Scott Sabourin (10-11=21) are tied for ninth place on the Monarchs with 21 points each.

Bodnarchuk ranks second on the Monarchs and third overall in the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-32.

Defensemen Vincent LoVerde (2-15=17), right wing Sean Backman (7-10=17), and O'Brien (7-10=17) are tied for 11th place on the Monarchs with 17 points each.

LoVerde leads the Monarchs and is tied for first in the AHL with a plus-34 rating.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (2-8=10) is the all-time games played leader in Monarchs history with 402 games played. He is the only player in franchise history to play in at least 400 games.

Center Colin Fraser (2-0=2) made his Monarchs debut against the Springfield Falcons on Friday night. The veteran forward has played in 358 National Hockey League games with the Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Chicago Blackhawks, and has two Stanley Cup championships on his resume.

Fraser scored his first goal in a Monarchs uniform in a 5-4 victory over the Pirates on Saturday night. The last AHL goal he scored was for the Rockford IceHogs when he collected a goal and two assists in the team's 5-3 win over the Iowa Stars on April 13, 2008.

Goaltender Martin Jones made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.

Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, December 7.

The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Kings 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.

In 13 games with the Kings, Jones has collected a record of 8-4-0, a .940 save percentage, a 1.71 goals-against-average, and three shutouts. He was recalled to Los Angeles on Monday, February 24. Jones' eight wins tied the NHL record for consecutive winning games to start an NHL career with netminder Bob Froese who won his first eight games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season.

Jones is the first goaltender in NHL history to allow an average of less than one goal per game while winning the first eight appearances of his career.

Jones is the third goaltender in NHL history to record three shutouts in his first six starts. Goaltender Flat Walsh accomplished the feat with the New York Americans during the 1928-29 season and netminder Frank Brimsek did it with the Boston Bruins during the 1938-39 season.

Jones has an overall record of 16-3-3 with a 2.13 goals-against-average, a .928 save percentage, and two shutouts in 22 games with the Monarchs this season.

Jones ranks second amongst AHL goaltenders with a .928 save percentage this season and leads the league with a goals-against-average of 2.13.

Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:

Games played - 158 - first place

Wins - 84 - first place

Losses - 57 - first place

Ties/Shootout Losses - 10 - second place

Goals-against-average - 2.42 - eighth place

Save percentage - .921 - tied for seventh place

Shutouts - 12 - third place

Saves - 4,280 - first place

Goaltender Jean-Francois Berube registered a 14-8-2 record in 24 consecutive starts during Jones' first stint with the Kings.

Berube set a franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender with 20 games on December 29. His current record-setting streak sits at 24 consecutive games. He surpassed the feat of 19 games set by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from November 19 - December 29, 2006.

Berube has collected a 19-13-2 record with a 2.43 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage in 34 games with the Monarchs this season.

Berube is ranked sixth in the AHL with 2001:04 minutes played, tied for sixth with 19 wins, and 13th with 859 saves this season.

Berube recorded his first AHL shutout by stopping all 28 shots he faced in the Monarchs 6-0 win over the IceCaps on Saturday, January 18. He was recalled by the Kings for the first time on February 7. He was reassigned to Manchester on Monday, February 24.
