Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 24, 2014) - The Sound Tigers will host their second annual You Can Play Day presented by World Health Clinicians on Sunday, March 2 when the team hosts the Utica Comets at 3 p.m. The Sound Tigers and the You Can Play Project have worked and will continue to work in conjunction to combat homophobia in all sports.
The festivities include a pre-game panel discussion featuring LGBT coaches and athletes. The discussion will begin at 1 p.m., one hour before the doors open for the Sound Tigers game. All fans with tickets to Sunday's game are welcome to attend. The discussion will feature former University of Pennsylvania hockey player David Farber, Staples High School (Westport, Conn.) boys soccer coach Dan Woog and Saunders High School (Yonkers, N.Y.) boys basketball coach Anthony Nicodemo.
You Can Play is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation.
You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team's success.
You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete's skills, work ethic and competitive sprit.
