
Knights' Win Streak Reaches Three

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights will put a three-game win streak on the line this week with a home game against the San Antonio Rampage and two road games against the Hamilton Bulldogs. The games in Hamilton, Ontario mark the beginning of the Knights' longest road trip of the year-five games in nine days. Omaha is coming off a sweep of two games with the Manitoba Moose last weekend. In addition to winning three straight, the Knights have also won four in a row on the road, tying a season high. They begin the week in fifth place in the West Division of the AHL with a record of 21-23-2-7, good for 51 points. That puts them just two points behind the Iowa Stars. Tickets for all home games are on sale all week at the Civic Auditorium box office from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 422-1212 and at Ticketmaster.com. The box office is open through the opening face-off on game nights.
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS: Friday, February 10: Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 4, Manitoba Moose 1 Brent Krahn stopped 18 shots in the first period, keeping the game scoreless. Dave Moss broke the tie early in the second period, and Warren Peters added a late shorthanded goal to put the Knights up 2-0 after two. The Moose narrowed the lead to 2-1 on an early powerplay goal, but the Knights got a five-on-three tally from Mark Giordano and an empty-net, shorthanded goal from Lynn Loyns for the final score. Krahn finished with 33 saves.
Saturday, February 11: Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 5, Manitoba Moose 1 In game two of the series, the Knights raced out to a 3-0 lead on a wraparound goal by Warren Peters and powerplay tallies by Richie Regehr and Eric Nystrom. The Knights added to their lead in the second period with another goal by Regehr. Manitoba tallied early in the third period, but the Knights recouped that goal with a tally by Brandon Prust. Brent Krahn again earned the win, making 20 saves.

CCM VECTOR/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights nominated goaltender Brent Krahn as the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 13, 2006. In two games last week, Krahn earned two wins, allowing just two goals while stopping 53 of 55 shots. On Friday, Krahn stopped 33 shots, including 18 in the scoreless first period of the Knights' 4-1 win over the Manitoba Moose. He also had an assist in the game. The next night, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba turned aside 20 more shots in the Knights' 5-1 win over the Moose. He finished the week with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage. Krahn has allowed just those two goals to Manitoba in the last nine periods of hockey.
OPPONENTS THIS WEEK: Thursday, February 16 vs. San Antonio Rampage (Phoenix Coyotes), 7:00 p.m. Sixth meeting of ten; final meeting of five in Omaha The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights welcome the Rampage for the final time this season. The game marks the beginning of the second half of the season series. All remaining games will be played in San Antonio, Texas. After winning the first two games, the Knights have dropped the last three meetings with the Rampage. San Antonio won 2-1 in a shootout on December 22nd in the last get together. The Rampage begin the week in seventh place in the West Division with a record of 15-30-1-4, good for 35 points. The team is currently on a ten-game, three week road trip. Layne Ulmer leads the Rampage in scoring with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points. His assist total is also a team best. Pavel Brendl is second in scoring with 27 points including a team leading 13 goals. Karl Goehring and David LeNeveu split the duty in the Rampage net. LeNeveu has a team best five wins while Goehring has posted a 2.71 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. The Rampage play at Milwaukee on Wednesday before coming to Omaha.
Saturday & Sunday, February 18 & 19 @ Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens/Edmonton Oilers), 6:00 p.m. (Saturday) & 3:00 p.m. (Sunday) CT Third and fourth meetings of four; first and second of two meetings in Hamilton, Ontario The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights return to Canada to finish the week against the Bulldogs. The Knights and âDogs played the first two games of this four-game series in Omaha back in November. The Knights swept both games, winning 3-1 and 4-1. The Bulldogs are in seventh place in the North Division with a record 20-31-0-3, good for 43 points. They are coming off a 4-1 win over San Antonio on Sunday but have won just three games in their last ten. Corey Locke leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points. He is tied with Brad Winchester for the team lead in goals. Marc-Antoine Pouliot is second in scoring with 33 points including a team-leading 23 assists. Yan Danis has worked a bulk of the time in net for Hamilton this season. In 30 games, he's posted a record of 13-13-2, a 2.80 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. The Bulldogs host Toronto on Wednesday and travel to Grand Rapids on Friday before welcoming the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights.
KNIGHTS NOTES: In the last three games, Brent Krahn has allowed two goals, good for a goals-against average of 0.67 and a save percentage of .978.
Defenseman Mark Giordano had a goal and two assists and was +5 in two games last week. He has now scored points in four games.
Center Warren Peters had a goal and an assist in each of the two games last weekend.
Captain Craig MacDonald had three assists in the two games last weekend and has now scored points in four straight games since returning from injury.
On Friday, the Knights scored two shorthanded goals in their 4-1 win over Manitoba. It was the first time they have scored more than one shorthanded goal in a game.
After allowing five powerplay goals at Chicago on January 18th, the Knights have allowed just six powerplay goals in the ten games since then (53/59), a success rate of 89.8%.
The Knights have scored four goals or more in three straight games after not posting even back-to-back four-goal games this year.
The Knights have scored powerplay goals in four straight games and have been successful 25% of the time (8/32).

Radio Appearance, Tuesday, February 14: Knights' play-by-play voice Dave Ahlers will be appearing on Pinnacle Sports Network's "Sports Nightly" program (KFAB AM 1110 in Omaha) at 7:40 p.m. He will speak about the Knights' season to date and look forward to the upcoming week.
Player Appearance, Wednesday, February 15: Knights' players Steve Bancroft, Craig MacDonald, Lynn Loyns, Brent Krahn and Brandon Prust as well as head coach Ryan McGill will be visiting employees of Northern Natural Gas at their offices on Pacific Street to sign autographs, distribute prizes and promote upcoming home games. The appearance begins at 1:00 p.m.
Player Appearance, Wednesday, February 15: Knights' players Brett Palin and Derek Couture will be appearing at the Runza Restaurant at 108th and Maple Streets in Omaha at 5:00 p.m. as part of the restaurant's fundraising program for Sunny Slope Elementary School.
