Adirondack Phantoms News Release

WEEK IN REVIEW

Wednesday, Feb. 8: Phantoms 3, Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins 2- Philadelphia picked up its first win in six tries against the league's top team with a 3-2 win over the Pens at the Wachovia Spectrum. Tony Voce and Marc Cavosie led the way with a goal and an assist each, while Brent Kelly also scored for the Purple. Jamie Storr made 29 saves to secure the win, including a save on a Ryan Stone penalty shot in the second period. Dany Sabourin took the loss with 22 saves on 25 shots. It was just the eighth regulation loss of the season for Wilkes-Barre and just the fourth for Sabourin. NHL veteran referee Dan Marouelli, one of four NHL referees who are officiating games at the Winter Olympics, worked the game as part of a program where the four officials are polishing their skills in the AHL's one-referee system in preparation for using that same protocol in Torino.

Friday, Feb. 10: Grand Rapids 4, Phantoms 0 - Grand Rapids held the Phantoms to just 23 shots and goaltender Joey MacDonald stopped them all in a 4-0 Griffins win at Van Andel Arena. Starting goaltender Jamie Storr nearly pulled the Phantoms through a first-period barrage of shots, but the 17th and final Griffins chance of the frame found the back of the net off the stick of Clay Wilson. Donald MacLean, Derek Meech and Tomas Kopecky scored the other three goals for Grand Rapids. Storr stopped 29 of 32 over the first two periods before giving way to Rejean Beauchemin, who stopped eight of nine in the final frame.

Saturday, Feb. 11: Phantoms 6, Chicago 1 -- Phantoms winger Tony Voce became the first player in franchise history to record four goals in a game, lifting Philadelphia to the big win over the Wolves at Allstate Arena. After a scoreless first period, Voce scored two in the second period and then completed the hat trick at 15:21 of the third. The historic tally came at 17:09 of the final frame from Stefan Ruzicka and Josh Gratton. Matt Ellison and B.J. Abel scored the other goals for the Phantoms, while Marc Cavosie added three assists. Jamie Storr was stellar in net, turning away 36 of 37 Chicago chances.
