June 2, 2021 - International League (IL)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their six-game series against the Nashville Sounds by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday evening from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning but fell just short in the end.
The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning with some help from right fielder Gavin Sheets, who drove home his team-high 20th run of the season. Charlotte added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to an RBI single from designated hitter Luis González and an RBI double from third baseman Jake Burger. That was all the Knights would muster in game two.
Nashville got home runs from Pablo Reyes and Weston Wilson en route to their Triple-A leading 20th win of the season. The win was also Nashville's 14th straight of the season. RHP Zack Godley (3-0, 0.90) allowed just one earned run over seven innings for the win.
Charlotte RHP Tanner Banks (2-2, 4.20) allowed just one run over three innings but was charged with the loss.
The two teams will continue their six-game series on Thursday with a 7:04 p.m. game from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday presented by Hickory Tavern.
